About Us

The Youth GrantMakers Council (YGMC) is a project of the Greater Salina Community Foundation that was created to directly involve youth in the grant making process. This council also gives its members the opportunity to empower youth and to help other youth-led projects succeed in bettering the community.

YGMC consists solely of high school students who are dedicated and proud to be at the forefront of change. The current council consist of seventeen members, who attend all five of Saline County's schools. They are diverse in age, race, sex, religion, and economic status, but they all have one thing in common; they want to make a difference.

Each year the council has money to give to youth-led projects to help them meet their needs. Grants are advertised, reviewed, and selected by the council. When a grant is awarded, it is also the job of YGMC to track the progress of each grant by requesting a report. But, no matter how long or hard the work may be, YGMC always has fun!

Kate Augustine (Secretary)
Hey! I'm Kate Augustine and I'm currently a senior at Sacred Heart High School and the President of the Senior Class. I am also the yearbook co-editor and President of the Junior Civitan Club. I enjoy playing my flute in concert band and in the Salina Youth Symphony. I also participate in Scholar's Bowl. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, painting, taking photographs, working at The City, and occasionally babysitting. This is my second year on the council.

Jason Kum
Hey! This is Jason Kum and this is my first year on YGMC. Just a little about myself, I'm a twin, I'm 17 years old, and I attend Salina South High School, where I am a senior. At school, I am the Senior Class Treasurer, I participate in Scholar's Bowl, English Club, and S.A.D.D., and I enjoy playing tennis. In addition, I believe it's great to bring service to the community. I'm on the Young Adult Advisory Board at the Salina Public Library, and of course I'm on YGMC. Chloe Seim (Historian)
Hi! I'm Chloe Seim and I'm a sophomore at Southeast of Saline High School. This is my second year on the council. I really enjoy helping the community, but I also enjoy art, writing, and singing. Some groups I'm involved in are Friends of Rachel, Big Brothers Big Sisters, National Honor Society, and T.R.U.S.T./S.A.D.D. I also can't wait for the grant cycles to get up and running!

Adria Smith (Historian)
Hey everyone! I'm Adria Embyana Smith and I'm a sophomore at Salina South High School. I'm an "A" student with a few "B's" (like one or two). I enjoy playing school sports, such as basketball and track and field. My hobbies are: church, basketball, hanging with friends, and talking or texting on my cell phone. This is my second year on YGMC and I love it! - Adria Smith #42

Veronica Hill (President)
I am Veronica Hill and I'm beginning my second year on the council and I am a senior at Salina South High School. I'm actively involved in South's Theatre Department and I serve as Drama Club President. I am also a member of the Forensics team, the Scholar's Bowl team, and I attend First United Methodist Church. I find my time on YGMC very well spent. Serving my community in this way is also very enjoyable.

Ryan Wofford (Vice-President)
My name is Ryan Wofford and I am 16 years old. I am a junior at Salina South High School. I am involved in vocal and drama at school, along with playing golf on the school's team in the spring. My parents are Greg and Lisa Wofford. I am never home during the summer because I am always at the golf course playing and practicing.

John Kum
Hey! My name is John Kum and this is my second year on the council. I currently attend Salina South High School and am a senior this year. After high school I plan to travel to an out-of-state college and go into the field of dentistry, which I am very excited about! I love to play soccer and tennis and hang out with my friends. Making new friends, of course, is very cool! I also like to read every now and then.

Adam Weishaar
My name is Adam Weishaar. I am a junior at Salina High School South. This is my third year on the council. I have enjoyed my time on the council and look forward to helping fund projects to better the community. Being a veteran member, I hope to make a greater impact for YGMC. I participate on the swimming and diving team and the golf team at school. I am also employed at the Elks Country Club. I am anticipating this year to be the best year of YGMC yet!

Paige Britegam
Hey! My name is Paige Britegam and I am a senior at Salina Central High School. This is my third year on the council and I am excited to see what we can do! I am a creative person and enjoy creating my own artwork and looking at others'. I am also big on animal rights and do my part to help our environment. I am looking forward to my senior year and am confident that our council will accomplish great things!

Ethan Young
I am Ethan Young and I am very excited to be a part of YGMC! As a junior at Salina South High School, I am actively involved in theatre through my Thespian Troupe. I also serve as Drama Club Historian. Another activity at school that I enjoy is being a part of the New Dawn Singers. I am a television fanatic and I make sure to catch many shows each week, including Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, and Survivor. I also enjoy hanging out with my BFF Veronica Hill! I am looking forward to a great year on this council!

Bryan Eitel
Hi! I am Bryan Eitel and I am a freshman at Salina South High School. I am fourteen years old. I like to fish, hunt, and play golf. I am involved at First United Methodist Church. My favorite subject in school is science.

Courtney Train
Hi! I'm Courtney Train. I am a 14 year old freshman attending Salina Central High School. I joined YGMC to gain leadership skills and to spice up my high school resume. My goal is to become a physical therapist. I hope to have a great year serving on the council!

Kaylee Ferguson
Hi! I am Kaylee Ferguson. I am a senior at Salina South High School and I am currently on the honor roll. This is my first year on YGMC and I look forward to serving on the council. My interests include hanging out with friends, working out, and *winking*.

Christina Bowden
My name is Christina Bowden and I'm a senior at Salina Central High School. I am active in Band and Choir and I love to play the piano. After school, I baby-sit two children. In my free time, when I have it, I enjoy hanging out with friends and being active in my church youth group. This is my second year on YGMC and I thoroughly enjoy being in this organization.

Morgan Lindsay
Hey! I'm Morgan Lindsay and I'm a junior at Ell-Saline Junior/Senior High. I am the Vice-President of our Future Farmers of America chapter and the Junior Class President. I am heavily involved with Kansas High School Rodeo and travel all over the state of Kansas to compete nearly every weekend during the fall and spring. This is my first year on the council and I am looking forward to making a difference in our community!

Ann Nguyen
I wear a size 5 shoe,
And I can play the oboe too!
I play in the Youth Symphony,
Although I can't really play the timpany.
I'm a sophomore at Sacred Heart,
And I like to eat Sweet Tart...s.
I was born in Vietnam,
But I don't have a friend named Tom.
I'm President of the Publicity Committee,

Ken Miller (Volunteer Advisor) Hello everyone! I am Ken Miller, a retired biology teacher. I have served in Salina Public Schools since 1964. This is my second year as a volunteer advisor for YGMC. I also serve as a board member and member of the Grants Committee of the Greater Salina Community Foundation.

Stephanie Carlin (Volunteer Advisor) Hello, I am Stephanie Carlin and I am currently serving my second year as a volunteer advisor. I am also a current board member for the Greater Salina Community Foundation. As a business owner, wife, and mother of 1 year old Cooper, I stay very busy. My favorite part about being involved with YGMC is watching our youth take the lead in granting funds to important causes and making a positive difference in our community.

Caitlin Cox (Youth Coordinator) Hey! I am Caitlin Cox, the Youth Coordinator of YGMC. My job is to help these guys be successful and to help the meetings go as smoothly as possible. I was a member of YGMC when it first started in 2004, it was so awesome that I could not leave after graduation. While working, I attend Kansas Wesleyan University, where I am a freshman. I am planning on becoming an elementary school teacher.
