Welcome!

The Youth GrantMakers Council (YGMC) is a youth organization focused on improving the community by providing grants to youth-led projects.

-------------------------

It's that time of year again! YGMC is gearing up for their busy spring schedule. Please take some time and read about the current opportunities YGMC has available for the youth of Saline County.

2010 Spring Grant Cycle

Each year, YGMC has two grant cycles. It is the duty of the members to create the grant applications, solicit them to the youth in the community, and then decide where the available grant dollars should be spent. Since its inception in 2004, YGMC has provided over $34,000 in grant to 48 youth-led projects in Saline County. Grant applications are now being accepted for our spring grant cycle. Grants must be written by students and they can request up to $2,000. Specific guidelines are on the grant application, located on our Forms page. Applications must be postmarked by March 8th.

Youth Citizenship Award

YGMC has been honoring one outstanding Saline County youth for the past three years with the Youth Citizenship Award. Community members of all ages are asked to nominate a student, no older than 18, who has made a significant voluntary contribution(s) to the welfare or betterment of the community. All nominees are interviewed and the council selects one winner. A commemorative plaque and a $100 check are given to the winner at the Greater Salina Community Foundation's Annual Luncheon in May. Nominations can be found on our Forms page and must be postmarked by March 8th.

Past Youth Citizenship Award Winners: Gretchen Holthaus (2007), Elissa Stein (2008), and Joey Platt (2009)

Membership for the 2010-2011 Council

The search is on to find new YGMC members for the 2010-2011 school year. We especially need current 8th graders and freshman to apply because it is hardest to recruit these age groups. The only requirements to be a member are that applicants must be attending a Saline County high school for the 2010-2011 school year and be willing to attend two meetings a month. The applications are to be postmarked by April 1st and there will be interviews for applicants shortly after. Once again, applications can be found on our Forms page.

Thank you for visiting our website. We appreciate the support we receive from the Saline County community and we look forward to continuing to serve area youth. Please come back and visit our website again soon!
